About Father Forward

Grounded Steady Support.

Becoming a dad can be exciting and rewarding — but it also brings pressure, uncertainty, and moments of doubt. Many fathers carry heavy feelings quietly, unsure if what they’re going through is important enough to mention, or if anyone would really understand. Yet research shows fathers are just as likely as mothers to experience mental health challenges during pregnancy and the first year after birth.

I created Father Forward to change that. It’s a telehealth psychology service dedicated to new and expectant dads across Australia — a place to put words to the experiences that often go unspoken, and to find support as you navigate the transition into fatherhood.

I’m Hugo Fernandez Salinas, a dad and AHPRA-registered psychologist with over 15 years of experience. My focus is on men’s and perinatal mental health. I’m also a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. (AAPi) and listed in the Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) directory of perinatal mental health providers.

Alongside my clinical work, I’ve also experienced the emotional challenges of early fatherhood firsthand. That experience deepened my understanding of what many dads go through, and how meaningful it can be to have a space to talk without judgement.

My approach is grounded, evidence-based, and compassionate. Father Forward is about creating a calm, dad-focused space where you can make sense of change, look after your wellbeing, and find your footing in the transition to fatherhood.
